A Bay of the Gene Pool Mojo Crawled Out Of....Submitted by mojo on Tue, 03/20/2012 - 7:16pm
For those who don't know, Mojo's beloved Favorite Father is a twin. An identical twin, as a matter of fact. Well, was a twin, I guess I should say, since unfortunately our beloved Uncle Tom died very suddenly a few years back. Coming from a typical Irish family, there are lots of stories about Dad and Uncle Tom, starting with their mother's need, at first, to keep the hospital bands on them so she could tell them apart. And she would go off to work and leave them in the care of their good ol' Irish uncles, who--so the story goes--thought it would be way funny to switch the bands on the babies. And switch them back. And switch them again. And eventually get drunk enough that they forgot which was which, and my poor Grandmother would have to return the babies to the hospital to have them footprinted and re-identified as to who was who. Uncle Tom was a geologist who (I think) worked for an oil company in Saudi Arabia during the sixties and early seventies. He was always doing nice things for us kids; during one of his visits he was mortified that we were living without a color television, and we were surprised with the delivery of this huge behemoth piece of furniture (back then they were put in these giant consoles) that served as our television for many a year. When he came home from Saudi Arabia he essentially retired, and spent most of his life living in California playing tennis. But before all that, he was in the Navy. I'm not quite sure how the chronology works, but Dad was in the Army while Tom went to college, and then Tom joined the Navy while my Dad went to college. In college, of course, Dad met the professor's brat that was to become Mojo's Favorite Mother, who was going for her Master's at the time (Mojo's parents are no slouches, which is why Mojo is such a bitter disappointment to them), and the two eventually announced their engagement, yadda yadda yadda, and *poof*, Mojo! And some other siblings. But I digress. Anyway, when Mojo's Favorite Parental Units announced their engagement, my mother got a letter from Uncle Tom. And rather than writing it all out (Mojo is, after all, the queen of laziness) instead I have scanned it so you can puzzle it out for yourself.
