IN WHICH Mojo Rants About Customer ServiceSubmitted by mojo on Fri, 07/10/2009 - 6:12am
Okay, so the other day I went through my bank's drive-through. Yes, Mojo is too lazy to get out of her car to even handle money. What I do is, once or twice I year I actually get out of the car, walk into the bank and steal a big stack of deposit slips. I then keep them in the glove compartment of my car and fill them out and go through the drive-through. It's sad, really. I used to go in, but what can I say? I'm an American. Leaving my car would be unpatriotic. The tellers used to tell me interesting stories, too, like the one customer who stole one of their big potted plants they had in the lobby. Yep, this braniac jamoke decided they WANTED THAT PLANT, so one day they picked it up and walked out of the bank with it. And obviously being the really really smart person that they were, didn't think that this was a freakin' BANK and there were CAMERAS all over the place watching them do this right after doing their computer-recorded-for-posterity banking. "What did you do?" a curious Mojo asked. (For despite Mojo's pitiful bravado, as we all know by now she is essentially a coward who would never think of stealing a large item from a bank. Not so much out of any Innate Sense of Superior Morality, although there is probably some guilt stuff in there, but mostly because long long ago Mojo learned that on top of everything else, Getting Caught was a Highly Unpleasant Thing and should be avoided at all costs.) To which the teller replied, "We called them up and asked for our plant back." Which struck Mojo as a hair anticlimactic, since I sorta wanted there to be cuffs and tackling and pistol whipping involved. I've been going to this bank for AGES, and eight times out of ten I get the same teller, who is a delightfully pleasant person. Every time I see her, which is only once or twice a month, she smiles and waves at me as if I'm her best friend. Even though we no longer talk and tell stories, we wave through the glass like it's prison visitation day and mouth things like "Have a nice day" as I pull away. She's just a really pleasant person. Mojo likes seeing her, even if Mojo sometimes suspects this woman treats EVERYONE that way. It's like another place I occasionally frequent. Mojo is NOT a fan of fast food in general, but once in a while I will go through the drive-through of Taco Bell. I can't stand 99% of their stuff--I heard somewhere that one of their giant nacho grande supremo whatever orders contained the apparent fat equivalent of eating sixteen slices of bacon; I like bacon well enough but NOT THAT MUCH--but I AM a fan of their plain ol' bean burritos. Mojo rarely eats much in one sitting, so for a dollar she is well fed for most of the day, with something that actually contains a substantial amount of dietary fiber if little else. Anyway, there is this one Taco Bell I occasionally frequent, which is somewhat out of my way. I discovered it by accident--literally. There was an accident that diverted traffic from my usual route, and I decided to find my way home using an alternate route, and I was all like, oh, hey, there's a Taco Bell; let's get a burrito. Wouldn't you know it, but the lady who takes the money HAS to be one of the most pleasantest and nicest people I have ever met. She's an absolute riot. So much so that there are times I go out of my way and go to THAT Taco Bell just to see her. So much so that at times I am actually tempted to abandon my habitual lethargy and actually write Taco Bell to tell them what a nice employee they've got there. I'm sure the poor thing only gets minimum wage, but she's just SUCH a nice person you want her to make so much more. Anyway, I guess all this because the day I went to the bank also happened to be the day I saw the "United Breaks Guitars" video, and it happened to remind me that there ARE people out there who care about the customers and treat you decently. Which is a nice thing to remember. Mojo |
