Reply to commentMojo's Lazy... (aka So What Else Is New)Submitted by mojo on Wed, 10/15/2008 - 5:46am
But Mojo DESERVES to be extra-lazy, since she spent the extra-long weekend stacking firewood. Lots 'n' lots of firewood. She is almost happy with her stash. I have a woodshed that fits about five rows of stacked wood, and we historically go through about four rows a season. Each row is a foot shy of a full cord. I now have three and a half rows stacked and out of the rain, with a purty big pile of maybe another cord cut and split still out in the yard ready for stacking. (If you have nothing better to do....) PLUS I have another pile of larger logs, maybe another cord, cord and a half, that still need sawing up and splitting. I was swinging away with the maul until about two weeks ago, when I leaned over a printing machine to add paper and my back suddenly went "pling!". I wasn't completely incapacitated, but it was sore and scary for a week, and I haven't got back to it yet. But I DID start exercising at the YMCA, which helped but likewise reduced my desire to exhaust myself doing firewood. PLUS we are awaiting another large load from the Wood Guy, since my Favorite Husband went nuts ordering firewood this season. I don't know where we're going to put it all. This weekend we did have a bonfire and we ended up burning a decrepit half-rotted buffet table we've had taking up space and housing mice in the carport. We--or at least *I*--am thinking of somehow stacking it there. But it's going to be another three cords of wood, which will be a pretty substantial pile even when it's stacked. Life could be worse. At least we will have heat this winter, which is more than some people can look forward to. Glorious woodstove heat. Our new insert is running like a champ. We figure it will pay for itself in about two years at the going heating oil rate. Mojo is content. Firewood does that to her. Others lust for money; Mojo just wants her firewood. Mojo Reply |
